Via Verde de la Sierra

Family Bike Ride on the Via Verde de la Sierra

The Via Verde de la Sierra bike ride is an easy bike ride along an abandoned railway which is very popular with our customers. We arrange lots of day trips to the Via Verde from Ronda and focus on providing people with a comprehensive, reliable and convenient service. We drive in our vehicle from Ronda to the start point in Olvera, where we set up the bikes and do a short briefing. From here the ride is 36km self-guided to Puerto Serrano, where we meet everyone for the drive back to Ronda. If you are staying outside Ronda we can also arrange other meeting points.

Via Verde Spain is a network of easy biking routes but the Via Verde de la Sierra near Ronda is definitely the best and most interesting of them all. The ride itself is a gradual descent - there are 30 tunnels (some nearly a kilometer long!), 4 viaducts and a Griffon Vulture colony which has its own visitor center along the route. We allow 3 and a half hours for the ride, which is an average of 10km per hour. Most people cycle faster than this but it allows plenty of time for photo stops and also to get some refreshments at the station cafe in the middle of the ride. The Via Verde cycle route is well-marked and easy to follow. It is a safe haven for families with smaller children as most traffic is not allowed on it - just the occasional farm vehicle. This route is a great way to get out and see the countryside and for families to take a bike ride together.

Via Verde Cycle Route

Even little ones can get involved on our tag-along bike.

The track is smooth, wide and pretty straight, so no chance to get lost. And it runs gently downhill all the way from Olvera to Puerto Serrano, so you don't need to worry about having to climb big hills.

Local wildlife often joins us along the way.

We usually get to see lots of Griffon vultures at their colony in Zaframagon.....

...and riding through the tunnels is a great experience.

A great day out along the Via Verde. Personalized care and service from Wayne - good equipment and instructions. We have three children aged 12, 10 and 8 and we were all able to participate (the youngest riding in a tag along with me!).

Thank you hike and bike for enabling us to see the fantastic Andalucian scenery and without having to climbs any hills. We took the Via Verde and cycled for 35 glorious kilometres, stopping at the visitors centre along the way for the most amazing education about vultures ( yes vultures in Spain!). Good job my husband is Spanish as the guy ( who was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable) can only converse in Spanish which is a shame for any non speaking spanish visitors.
Wayne was really friendly and the drive to the start point gave us the chance to see the countryside and to ask him loads of questions - which he was happy to answer!

A great day out - thank you
