Grazalema Grand Tour

Bike Ride - Moderate to Challenging

This route is an extension of our Grazalema Natural Park circular ride, providing more singletrack and additional hill climbs and descents. The Natural Park is a great area for cross-country biking, with dramatic, unspoilt and remote plains surrounded by towering mountain peaks.

The first half of the ride explores the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a protected region of rocky mountain crags, karst valleys and cork oak forest. A climb up into the first section of cork oak forest offers a good chance of spotting some free-ranging Iberian pigs, then its back down into the valley and past the Sima del Republicano, the entrance to a 200m deep, natural shaft in the mountain. Soon after this we leave our Grazalema Natural Park route and head off up into more cork oak forests on a twisting single track route. This leads us in to the Hundidero valley and on to the white village of Montejaque, where we normally take a quick refreshment stop. We exit the village via the "zigzag path", a short, steep climb up the side of a mountain and on to a flat plateau, from where we have great views back towards Ronda, more than 10km away. We finish with a fun descent from the mountains down into the Guadiaro valley and return to Ronda in our minibus.

Note: Good fitness is required to cope with the distance and climbing involved throughout this ride. There are some technical sections to negotiate along the route so you will also need good mtb skills. Strong riders can ride back the hill up to Ronda at the end.
