Malaga Lakes & El Chorro
Mountain Bike Ride - Moderate
DESCRIPTION
This is a fantastic cross-country mountain bike ride through isolated landscapes to Andalucia’s "Lake District" and the Kings Dam. If you enjoy being out in the countryside with big views, changing landscapes and a cool destination then this ride is for you. Read more.....A 15 min drive takes us to the start point high above the village of Cuevas del Becerro. We start with a long descent, passing by the village and into olive country, with views as far as the eye can see. A mixture of unsurfaced tracks and quiet roads takes us through the tiny village of Serrato, then up and through pine-covered hills with mountain ranges all around. We enjoy a fun, long descent to the town of Ardales before joining a quiet road that follows along the edge of the first lake. You will notice how the landscape changes dramatically into a mountainous, rocky, landscape very different to where we have been. We go off-road up to a viewpoint that rewards us with great views over the lakes and to see where we have ridden. We drop down again and through an old tunnel to head to the 1920s built, Kings’ Dam, the first dam in the creation of this lake-filled region. Take a pew in the king's chair before we enjoy some refreshments at the nearby cafe.
Extended Finish (+ €30) Alternatively finish near the dramatic gorge of El Chorro, with views of the recently restored Caminito del Rey walkway, perched high up on the inside of the cliffs of the gorge. This option takes us back along the reservoir road and down a really nice descent deep into the el Chorro valley. The views are amazing and it is a fun way to finish the ride. |
