DESCRIPTION
A dramatic mountain bike ride on a mixture of tracks, single-track and an 8km ascent by road to the Africa Mirador viewpoint. Fantastic cross-country mountain biking. This route will see you climbing high for fantastic views of the Genal valley, the Alcornocales Natural Park and the Guadiaro River valley. The descent back into the valley is great fun, passing through chestnut and oak forests. Read more.....A short drive from Ronda takes us to Jimera Estacion, a small hamlet on the Guadiaro River at the base of a ridge of mountains. After picking our way along some single-track paths we take a steady climb to the top of the ridgeline and onto the highest point of our ride at the Africa Mirador. The Mirador lies on the path of many birds (particularly large birds of prey) on their bi-annual migrations between Europe and Africa, from up here we enjoy unrivalled views of Gibraltar’s famous Rock and across the Mediterranean Sea to Africa. We then enjoy a fun descent back into the valley and follow and undulating route with a few short technical sections, before reaching the river. We then ride back and gradually ascend to the village of Jimera de Libar to enjoy the final single-track descent to the start point. There is time for a well-deserved drink in Jimera Estacion, before returning to Ronda in our minibus. |

Note: This route includes a long ascent, so requires good fitness on the bike. Intermediate MTB experience is required for some sections where the tracks are rough and eroded.
