Mr Hendersons Way
Hiking - Challenging
DESCRIPTION
This walk takes the less traveled path from Ronda out to the Guadiaro river valley. It explores some of the most unspoiled and peaceful hillside landscapes before dropping sharply down to the Guadiaro river. We then follow a rocky path known as “Mr. Henderson’s Way” which undulates above the river banks to Jimera Estacion, where we finish at a local bar. Read more.....We head out from Ronda into the southwestern hills, crossing high open pastures and small mountain streams. We enjoy stunning views throughout, first of all back to Ronda on its clifftop location and then forward to the dramatic mountains of the Grazalema Natural Park. We descend to the valley of the Guadiaro river and then join "Mr. Hendersons' Way. This narrow rocky pathway follows above the river through a picturesque limestone gorge. It is named after the ambitious British financier of the Victorian railway project which cut through the mountains from Algeciras on the southern coast of Spain up to Granada. The railway line still winds through the bottom of the valley - not many trains run each day so they barely disturb the tranquil mountain atmosphere. |
