Grading	Moderate – This tour has been designed to follow the 'less travelled path', walking almost entirely away from roads on a mix of drovers' trails, tracks and pathways. Every day includes notable hill climbs, and some of the paths are rocky and uneven in places. Some days are remote throughout the walk. Day 1 - optional increase to 20km by walking through the beautiful Tajo del Abanico, "The Fan" a striking gorge with limestone rock formations.

Arrival Day in Ronda

Walking Day 1 - Ronda to Montejaque

16km +591m

Take in the views of the Ronda gorge before exiting through the old town. Cross over the hills, heading through high open pastures and past small mountain streams before dropping sharply down to the Guadiaro river. Head along the river to the Cueva del Gato, a local beauty spot with a cave opening, a year-round waterfall and a crystal clear pool. Then climb up above the cave and into the mountains towards the village of Montejaque. Optional climb up to a viewpoint "mirador" directly above the village before taking a well-earned rest. Overnight in the village centre hotel.

Walking Day 2 - Montejaque to Grazalema

16km +523m

From Montejaque, you head into the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a 52,000-hectare protected area of natural beauty. You will follow ancient routes which cut through the limestone peaks to access the small, remote mountain villages. You will pass through a beautiful and secluded "Hidden Valley", surrounded by holm oak forests which are home to Iberian pigs, wild ibex and deer. Continue on to Grazalema village, formerly one of the wealthiest of the white villages due to its weaving industry. Large porticoed houses around the square lend the village a sense of grandeur, whilst the annual bull run maintains an Andalucian historical tradition. Overnight in the village centre; lots of good restaurant options for dinner.

Walking Day 3 - Grazalema Circular

10km +497m

This is a circular walk that heads into the mountains which overlook Grazalema to the south and north of the village. Some of the paths are rocky, but you will enjoy great views of the Grazalema Natural Park and be in the heart of the mountains. The final part of the walk takes you to a beautiful reservoir up above the village.

Walking Day 4 - Grazalema to Montejaque

16km +198m

Return to Montejaque through the Natural Park, following a mountain stream along little-used trails beneath the shade of the cork oak forest which covers the hills between Montejaque and Grazalema. Overnight back in Montejaque.

Or the option to walk an additional 4km (all downhill) to the hamlet of Benaojan Estacion. Overnight at a charming boutique riverside hotel, with gardens and pool, known for its excellent restaurant and tranquil setting. The next day is a slightly adjusted route back to Ronda, omitting the Hundidero dam but passing a local beauty spot, Cueva del Gato, a waterfall and a crystal-clear water pool. The final section beneath Ronda's famous cliffs, gorge and bridge is the same.

Walking Day 5 - Montejaque to Ronda

14km +464m

Walk from the village to the foot of the abandoned (and dry) Hundidero dam and stand beneath the dam's towering wall before climbing out of the valley.  It is possible to walk onto the top of the dam if you wish before dropping back down to the Guadiaro River. A walk through pleasant countryside, takes you back towards Ronda town, with a final section through the valley at the foot of Ronda's famous cliffs, gorge and bridge. What a way to finish the week!

Accommodation This tour visits Ronda and two small villages, so the accommodation style and standard varies but we have personally selected every overnight venue. The Ronda hotel is usually 4* and we select the best available options in the other locations. We base our choices on clean and comfortable accommodation (if sometimes quite simple), friendly owners, welcoming staff and staff and, where possible, a swimming pool. We prioritise clean, comfortable stays with friendly owners and, where possible, swimming pools.

You also receive a large‑scale annotated map designed specifically for your tour.   Local Support You’re never on your own. As soon as you arrive in Spain, we add you to a dedicated WhatsApp group so communication is quick and effortless throughout your trip. We also meet you at the start of your tour to talk you through everything you need to know, make sure your navigation app is set up correctly, and confirm you’re fully comfortable using it.  Where will I be walking?

Our Walking Tours are designed to follow the ‘less travelled path', walking almost entirely away from roads on a mix of drovers' trails, tracks and pathways. Our routes go into the remotest parts of the Serrania de Ronda, so you will often be well away from 'civilisation' for the day.

 How Fit Do I Need To Be?

All our Walking Tours are graded at a ‘Moderate’ level, for which you need to be capable of walking for a minimum of 4 hours in hilly and mountainous terrain. Every day includes notable hill climbs, with some steep descents and ascents and some sections on loose or rocky surfaces. While your main luggage is being transferred for you, be prepared to carry the necessary provisions and equipment to see you through the day.  What’s The Weather Like?

Our walking tours run from March through to November, with the best weather from March to June and from September to November. Most routes are also possible during the summer months, but we recommend an earlier start to beat the main heat of the day, and don’t forget to carry plenty of water.

 What Happens To My Luggage?

We transfer all your main luggage for you. On remote days, where you pass no 'civilisation' be prepared to carry appropriate provisions and equipment to see you through the day.

 How Do I Navigate Each Day?

Navigation on this tour is very easy with our phone app. RidewithGPS. We provide personalised daily routes from door-to-door of each day’s accommodation. The app shows maps and daily routes in great detail, with distances and route profiles, so you always know what is coming up. The app is designed for use in offline mode, so you don't need to use Data on your phone and can still navigate in areas where there is no phone signal.

 What Meals Are Included?

All accommodations include breakfast (unless otherwise stated). Lunch and dinner are not included, so you are free to eat when and where you wish. We mark up your map with suggested lunch locations. Your hosts can recommend dining options, or sometimes they will serve dinner – this information will be included in your daily route notes.

 What If I Need To Cancel Or Change My Booking?

If you need to cancel or change the dates of a booking, we have a scaled set of charges based on the work already completed and any costs already incurred that we cannot get back. If you re-book a holiday with us within 12 months of a cancellation which has incurred charges, we will credit up to 50% of the retained amount to the new holiday.
