Itinerary

Arrival Day in Ronda

Check in to your hotel and enjoy the sights and sounds of the beautiful clifftop town of Ronda.

  • Extra sightseeing days can be added on request

  • The welcome meeting and brief usually take place the evening before your first walk

Walking Day 1 - Ronda to Cartajima

13km +574m

Leaving Ronda behind, you ascend from the clifftop city into quiet countryside, following old drovers’ paths that wind through olive groves and open farmland. The route gradually climbs into the rugged mountains and the upper Genal Valley, where the scenery shifts to chestnut forests and wide valley views. The final approach to Cartajima is a beautiful ridge‑line walk overlooking the deep wooded valleys that cover this part of the Serranía. Cartajima itself is one of the highest white villages in the valley — peaceful, traditional and surrounded by dramatic terrain.

Walking Day 2 - Cartajima to Jimera de Libar

18km +659m

A classic village‑to‑village day with huge variety. You begin by crossing the upper Genal Valley on ancient footpaths used for centuries by farmers moving between hamlets. Todays route takes you through the blue village of Juzcar. Chestnut forests give way to open hillsides with long views across to the Sierra de Grazalema. After a steady descent, the landscape shifts again as you approach the Río Guadiaro corridor — cooler, greener and shaped by water. The final stretch follows a mountain path which descends into Jimera de Líbar, a friendly village with a relaxed rural feel overlooking the valley.

Walking Day 3 - Jimera de Libar to Molino del Santo

13km +197m

This is a gentle and scenic day following the Río Guadiaro upstream on peaceful riverside and valley‑side paths. The route follows the historic path of Henderson’s Way, offering a real sense of journey between villages. You pass through limestone scenery shaped by the river and enjoy constant views of the surrounding mountains. The route extends along the river to take in the Cueva del Gato, where a waterfall cascades into a crystal clear pool of water, ideal for a cooling swim. The day finishes at Molino del Santo hotel and restaurant, a beautifully restored riverside mill — one of the most atmospheric accommodations on the route.

Walking Day 4 - Molino del Santo to Grazalema

18km +590m

A superb mountain day linking the Guadiaro Valley with the dramatic limestone landscapes of the Grazalema Natural Park. You begin with a steady climb into the mountains, gaining height as views expand across cliffs, gorges and rugged peaks. The route follows mountain paths, offering a real sense of journey through the Cork Oak forests and between valleys. The final approach to Grazalema is spectacular, with the white village appearing beneath towering limestone walls — a memorable arrival into one of Andalucía’s most iconic mountain settlements.

Walking Day 5 - Grazalema to Zahara de la Sierra

16km +363m

A beautiful traverse across the north-eastern edge of the park, beginning with views over the hidden mountain reservoir above Grazalema, a turquoise pool tucked into the limestone peaks. The route continues along high trails with constant panoramas before descending toward the larger Embalse de Zahara‑El Gastor. The final kilometres follow paths beside the shimmering lake, offering long waterside views and a dramatic approach to Zahara de la Sierra. The village rises sharply above the reservoir, crowned by its castle and framed by rugged cliffs — one of the most spectacular arrivals of the entire tour.

FAQs

 Where will I be walking?

Our Walking Tours are designed to follow the ‘less travelled path', walking almost entirely away from roads on a mix of drovers' trails, tracks and pathways. Our routes go into the remotest parts of the Serrania de Ronda, so you will often be well away from 'civilisation' for the day.

How Fit Do I Need To Be?

All our Walking Tours are graded at a ‘Moderate’ level, for which you need to be capable of walking for a minimum of 4 hours in hilly and mountainous terrain. Every day includes notable hill climbs, with some steep descents and ascents and some sections on loose or rocky surfaces. While your main luggage is being transferred for you, be prepared to carry the necessary provisions and equipment to see you through the day. Check the individual tour Itinerary for a daily breakdown of distance and ascent.

 What’s The Weather Like?

Our walking tours run from March through to November, with the best weather from March to June and from September to November. Most routes are also possible during the summer months, but we recommend an earlier start to beat the main heat of the day, and don’t forget to carry plenty of water.

 What Happens To My Luggage?

We transfer all your main luggage for you. On remote days, where you pass no 'civilisation' be prepared to carry appropriate provisions and equipment to see you through the day.

How Do I Navigate Each Day?

Navigation on this tour is very easy with our phone app. RidewithGPS. We provide personalised daily routes from door-to-door of each day’s accommodation. The app shows maps and daily routes in great detail, with distances and route profiles, so you always know what is coming up. The app is designed for use in offline mode, so you don't need to use Data on your phone and can still navigate in areas where there is no phone signal.

 What Meals Are Included?

All accommodations include breakfast (unless otherwise stated). Lunch and dinner are not included, so you are free to eat when and where you wish. We mark up your map with suggested lunch locations. Your hosts can recommend dining options, or sometimes they will serve dinner – this information will be included in your daily route notes.

What If I Need To Cancel Or Change My Booking?

If you need to cancel or change the dates of a booking, we have a scaled set of charges based on the work already completed and any costs already incurred that we cannot get back. If you re-book a holiday with us within 12 months of a cancellation which has incurred charges, we will credit up to 50% of the retained amount to the new holiday. Our full cancellation policy can be found here
