Grazalema Natural Park to Ronda

e-MTB Ride - Moderate or Challenging

DESCRIPTION

This route explores the heart of the Grazalema Natural Park and then heads all the way back to Ronda, including sections of great natural singletrack and lots of hill climbs and descents. The Natural Park is a great area for cross-country biking, with dramatic, unspoiled and remote plains surrounded by towering mountain peaks.

The first half of the ride explores the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a protected region of rocky mountain crags, karst valleys and cork oak forest. A climb up into the first section of cork oak forest offers a good chance of spotting some free-ranging Iberian pigs, then it's back down into the valley and past the Sima del Republicano, the entrance to a 200m deep, natural shaft in the mountain. Then we head off up into more cork oak forests on twisting single track and onto the Hundidero valley.

We ride through the village of Montejaque where we normally take a quick refreshment stop, then exit the village via the "zigzag path". This is a short, steep climb on an old stone path that takes us up into the mountains and to a hidden plateau, from where we have great views back towards Ronda, more than 10km away. We continue on a fun descent through farmland into the valley of La Indiana before using trails that head up through pine-forested hills to climb back to Ronda.
