Covid 19 – Travel Update
for Cycling and Walking Holidays and Tours in Spain
Updated: 13 December 2021
After a couple of tough years for cyclists, hikers and all travellers to foreign destinations, we are hopeful that 2022 will provide us all with better opportunities to get out into the countryside and explore new landscapes on two wheels or on foot. Even though there are still some uncertainties around travelling abroad, we at Hike and Bike are doing everything we can to help with planning your holiday and keeping you safe once you are here with us in Spain.
Outdoor Holidays – Something to Look Forward To
When we have lived through stay-at-home orders and restricted travel, there is nothing better than a cycling or walking holiday in the fresh air and sunshine to reinvigorate our senses and put a smile on our faces. The health benefits of active pursuits have been well-known for years but right now, those benefits feel more salient than ever:
- Avoid the crowds in unspoiled rural areas
- Take a break from trains, planes and automobiles
- Slow travel - take time to enjoy new sights and sensations
- Cultural delights of historical cities and picturesque white villages
- Build up an appetite for local cuisine – it tastes best after exercise and in its native location
If you are looking for inspiration on what to do and where to go, all our activities will run in 2022. Just browse the tabs for Mountain Biking, Cycling or Hiking to get started. In the drop-down menus, look for for Leisure Cycling, Road Cycling, Holidays based in Ronda, Tours, Family Activities, Cycling Retreats and much more.
Travel requirements for Spain
Whilst travel rules are subject to change, you should always check out the latest information before you book your holiday and again before you travel. Click here for the latest Spanish government travel advice in English and also check your own national government’s travel advice e.g. for UK travellers – UK government advice on travelling to Spain
Take out comprehensive travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday, making sure it covers your specific needs. Many policies now include different types of cover for coronavirus, such as medical expenses while on holiday or cover for cancellations if you are unable to travel. Read the policy details carefully to ensure it has the level of cover you want.
Hike and Bike Covid Measures – Book with Confidence
Your safety is our number one priority, so we keep a constant eye on latest safety measures in Spain to ensure we (and all our partners who you may come into contact with) are following all the required protocols. Masks, sanitiser, social distancing – all are now familiar terms to us but should not spoil your enjoyment of your holiday. Fortunately, even when masks are required in public areas and inside our vehicles, riding our bikes has always been one situation where we don’t need to wear them.
If you book a holiday with Hike and Bike and you are unable to travel due to changes in government Covid policy (either in your own country or in Spain) up to 30 days prior to your travel date, we will try to reschedule your holiday to alternative dates or refund the monies paid, subject to any non-refundable costs incurred. Place-to-place tour cancellations or rescheduling will be subject to a 50€ p.p. admin. fee. If government policy changes less than 30 days prior to your travel dates, please get in touch with us and we will talk through options with you. See our full Terms and Conditions here
In addition to all our precautions, we still recommend that you have appropriate travel insurance so that if you fall ill and test positive for Covid prior to (or during) your tour, you will be financially covered for cancelling your trip and any subsequent medical costs incurred.
Above and beyond any Covid-related events, our main focus is to welcome you to Spain to enjoy our fantastic landscape and warm Andalucían welcome – Join the Adventure!
