Mountain Biking

MTB Grading & Rider Requirments

Choosing the right holiday / day trip for you

Hike + Bike’s base in Ronda is surrounded by some of the best mountain biking terrain and conditions in Europe. The natural parks of Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves, located on each side of the town itself, provide a huge variety of off road terrain and cross country cycling to suit all levels of riders. There is everything from forest and mountain tracks, disused railway lines and quiet pathways through to steep, rocky mountain trails, technical climbs / descents and single track sections.

We have a wide range of rides at all levels so you can:

  • Request an individual, tailor-made holiday / day trip at a level to suit you/your group’s riding abilities and experience
  • Join a group holiday / day trip with pre-set, graded itineraries

Take a look at our grading levels to help you to understand what to expect from the region and to select the right trip for you. If you would like to chat to us about the different grades or riding in this area, please contact us. Our goal is simply to give you the best possible holiday riding experience.

mtb grade 1

Level 1 - Easy

Scenic and enjoyable cross country bike routes which combine a mixture of mainly quiet, country roads, cycle ways and wide tracks. If you ride a bike now and again but have never tried anything off-road, or if you enjoy the odd bike ride on tracks or grassy trails but don’t like tackling anything rough or tricky, then this is the level for you. Rides last 2-4 hours at a leisurely pace with plenty of breaks and things to see along the way. Great for all the family. Daily distance: 15 – 36 kilometres.

mtb grade 2

Level 2 - Moderate

Routes which mainly feature forest tracks and trails, footpaths, fields and uneven surfaces but are not highly technical. They are aimed at regular cyclists who are reasonably fit and have off-road experience but have not done much technical riding. You should be generally confident handling a bike. The routes could include some short sections of narrow or technical terrain and hills (both up and down).  You will be out on the bike for 3-5 hours (including breaks) and will cover daily distances of 30 – 50 kilometres.

mtb grade 3

Level 3 - Challenging

Routes which include rocky trails and single track with long, challenging climbs and descents. The surface is frequently rough and loose and you may need to push or carry your bike to pass particularly rocky areas. These routes are aimed at regular mountain bikers with a high level of all-round fitness and good technical riding skills. You will be out on the bike for 4-6 hours (including breaks) and will cover a daily distance: 40 – 60 kilometres.
