Distances & Ascent

Beginner and Intermediate

During the course of the week rides build from 40km up to 100km and climbing escalates from 1000m to 2000m. Stronger riders will be offered extensions. See example itinerary below.

Managing your expectations:
You are likely to cover less ground in Andalucia due to the undulating routes. There are no flat or easy rides so prepare to be challenged by the terrain. As a ‘rule of thumb’ 1km can feel like 1 mile.

Rides will be tailored to the needs of the group with vehicle support operating on all days.

Grading Steadily increasing rates of distance and ascent over the week.  Emphasis is on building an endurance base for the coming season.

Why choose Ronda for your Cycling Training Camp?
  • Superb riding - Ronda is surrounded by miles and miles of varied  riding opportunities: high mountain passes with amazing views, Natural Parks, river valleys and lakeside routes. Most important of all, there is great scope for different elements of cycle training - challenge yourself on dramatic climbs and be rewarded with long,  descents that are some of the best in Europe.

  • Immaculate roads - The roads are quiet and the tarmac surfaces are in excellent condition - they ride like silk compared to what you probably endure at home!

  • Outstanding weather - Andalucian weather in the spring provides near perfect conditions for cycling training camps.

  • Tasty refueling en-route - Traditional white villages dotted through the mountains and popular roadside "ventas"  make excellent lunch and coffee stops. Try out local specialties and classic tapas - save the beers for post-ride!

  • Quality accommodation & meals - See right - the Hotel Molino del Puente.

  • Individual coaching - Personal riding appraisal. Small groups so the coach is always on hand for skills advice and practical training. After the training camp week, follow-up contact with the coach can be arranged for progressive training

  • Quality Carbon Road Bikes - Want to leave your own bike safely at home? .... Not a problem, we can provide a great choice of carbon framed bikes from our partner "Kamaga Bike".  Delivered to you at the hotel.

Where will you be staying?

Our training holidays are located in a family-run, boutique countryside hotel, just outside Ronda, the Hotel Molino del Puente (click here to read more).

The hotel is a beaurifully restored olice mill, full of character and comfort, with an excellent reputation for its hospitality and food. You will dine in the hotel's excellent restaurant - Ian, the chef and co-lwner, can provide menus for all dietary preferences.

Standard accommodation is for 2 people in a double or twin room with en-suite.         Half-Board - breakfast, afternoon tea and cakes, 3-course evening meal.

Example of an Intermediate Training Week

  • Day 1 - Arrival - Bike Setup & 'leg loosener' ride

The Hike + Bike team and Parallels coach will greet you at the airport.  After arrival in the hotel we will help you setup your bikes and if early enough go for a short ride ride to check that bikes are set up ok and to loosen the legs after your journey.

Evening meet and greet for an introduction to the coming week.

  • Day 2 - 57km 1256m ascent

Head into the hills north of Ronda for a taster of the area.  Enjoy rolling hills and ancient roman ruins before passing through hidden cave house village of Setenil de las Bodegas.

During the ride we will focus on riding together as a group, using clear communication and hand signals to keep the ride flowing.

The workshop will be 'Fueling your Riding'.

  • Day 3 - 60km - 1453m ascent

Today we head south up into the Genal valley, famous for its chestnut trees and white villages, although the exception to the rule is a blue village,  Juzcar where we can take a coffee break.

During the ride we will build on the previous day's group riding skills and consider how we can share the load when riders are tired.

The workshop will be 'Event Preparation'

  • Day 4 - 73km 1707m ascent

Grazalema Natural Park is our destination today.  riding through cork Oak forests into the heart of the NP.  This is road biking heaven with stunning mountain vistas and the excellent descent from las Palomas pass, Zahara lake also a site to behold as you descend from the mountain top.

During the ride we will focus on our cadence and how we can improve our pedaling style on various gradients.

    The workshop will be 'Mechanics'

  • Day 5 - Recovery Day

Today can be used for doing a light ride local to the hotel or take a day's rest and explore the wonderful town of Ronda "City of Dreams"

  • Day 6 - 82 km 1784m ascent

As the distance increases so does the variety of riding.  From rolling hills through to mountain passes, todays ride will provide great views of the Sierra de las Nieves and pass through remote villages nestled in the Andalusian landscape.

During the ride our attention will turn to pacing and how to ride efficiently.

The workshop will be 'Planning your Training'

  • Day 7 - 99km 2107m ascent

Last but by no means least, todays ride offers challenges through mountainous terrain in two Natural Parks. Passing through several white villages before heading to the town of Ubrique nestled in a deep valley and surrounded by high peaks.

During the ride we will consider our climbing and descending which by now should have improved significantly!

The workshop will be 'Goal Setting'

  • Day 8 - Departure

    Transfer back to Malaga Airport
